WWE Money in the Bank 2016 Predictions

The seventh annual Money in the Bank pay per view takes place tonight in Las Vegas, Nevada.

MITB ’16 is carried by three major matches: Reigns vs. Rollins, Cena vs. Styles for the first time ever and the Money in the Bank ladder match. Expectations are high for those three matches, and that’s no surprise when you consider the talent involved.

This is the predictions table so far:

RIF – 85.5pts

Michael & Dan – 79.5

Joe – 71pts

Pre Show

Breezango (Tyler Breeze & Fandango) vs. The Golden Truth (R-Truth & Goldust)

RIF: Golden Truth

Joe: Golden Truth

Michael: Breezango

Dan: Golden Truth

I actually like the paring of Tyler and Fandango. They both have similar gimmicks that makes the concept of the team work. I would like to see Fandango drop the dancing gimmick and adopt a gimmick similar to Breeze. The story for this is that it took some time for The Golden Truth to become a team, then when they did team up they lost to Breezango a couple of times. I don’t really care too much for this match but for the sake of a prediction I’m going with The Golden Truth.

Pre Show

Lucha Dragons vs. The Dudley Boys

RIF: Dudley Boys

Joe: Dudley Boys

Michael: Lucha Dragons

Dan: Dudley Boys

This was added on Friday afternoon without any build up on TV. It’s just another way of getting more guys on the card. I’m going with a Dudley Boys win. The Dragons have a ton of momentum and I do think they’ll split in the draft. A win for the Dudleys could help those guys get back into the mix for the tag titles as we head towards SummerSlam.

Dolph Ziggler vs. Baron Corbin

RIF: Baron Corbin

Joe: Dolph Ziggler

Michael: Baron Corbin

Dan:  Baron Corbin

I’m beginning to get tired of this feud now. Worst feud of 2016? It’s certainly a contender, that’s for sure! I’d love to see Ziggler turn heel once the roster split takes effect because he’s going nowhere as a heel. At least he’ll get more opportunities again, but I don’t it’ll happen since WWE views him as the guy to get others over. It’s a shame because Dolph Ziggler is a talented performer.

Sheamus vs. Apollo Crews

RIF: Apollo Crews

Joe: Apollo Crews

Michael: Sheamus

Dan: Apollo Crews

I love the story behind this, because it’s simple and makes sense, two rarities these days when dealing with the WWE creative team. Sheamus is jealous because of the so-called “New Era” coming in and taking his payday, and he’s lashing out at one of the guys he holds responsible for stealing the spotlight. Crews looks solid in the ring, but he needs to do more than just smile and win matches against mid card heels. A victory over a former WWE champion will do him wonders. I can see it being it played out where Sheamus dominates much of it, only for Crews to win some sort of counter of somesort.

WWE United States Championship

Rusev © vs. Titus O’Neil

RIF: Rusev

Joe: Titus O’Neil

Michael: Rusev

Dan: Rusev

While I like that Titus is in the spot because he is a fresh face, but they haven’t really build him up for it. He earned a title match by saving other people from getting attacked by Rusev. Shouldn’t he have earned the opportunity by winning a number one contender match or something? I still believe that Rusev can be a main event level heel someday. The upcoming draft reinforces my belief on that. He’s good talent, but he needs more meaningful feuds than this one.

WWE Tag Team Championship

The Vaudevillians vs. Enzo Amore & Colin Cassady vs. The New Day © vs. The Club

RIF: The Club

Joe: The Club

Michael: The Club

Dan: The Club

All good things come to an end, in this case, it’s the New Day’s reign as tag team champions. New Day could very well win here, it’s possible, if they hold on to the titles until SummerSlam then it’s a yearlong reign. New Day are a solid established act. They don’t need the titles at this point. Use the titles to get someone else over and this is a way to do it. I can’t see the other teams winning because WWE are continuing to build up Enzo & Cass whiles The Vaudevillians aren’t ready yet. If Gallows & Anderson win the titles, you can easily do a couple of PPVs with The New Day trying to get the titles back. I just think for now, putting the titles on The Club would help them a lot.

Charlotte & Dana Brooke vs. Natalya & Becky Lynch

RIF: Natalya & Becky Lynch

Joe: Natalya & Becky Lynch

Michael: Charlotte & Dana Brooke

Dan: Charlotte & Dana Brooke

When this match was first announced, my initial reaction was to pick the face team to win because if the champion, in this case Charlotte, is in a tag match that usually means they will be on the losing side with the idea of setting up a future title match. I’m still sticking with the faces winning. I think Becky will get the next title shot. Either her of Paige since she beat Charlotte in a non-title match recently. I wish Sasha Banks was involved in the title mix. She’s been out of the picture for whatever reason and that just sucks. I reckon Charlotte will lose the title at SummerSlam, hopefully to Sasha!

AJ Styles vs. John Cena

RIF: AJ Styles

Joe: AJ Styles

Michael: John Cena

Dan: AJ Styles

This might be my favourite match of the night because it’s something we’ve never imagined we’d ever see. The match will be stellar, as these are two of the best big match performers in the world today. The atmosphere is going to be incredible! Styles has lost three straight PPV matches. Will he win here? I think so, yes. It’s the right decision. He needs a big victory to go with the big turn. It places him in a great position, which goes hand in hand with this new era that they bang on about. Styles to win here, but winning the feud is a completely different story, especially when John Cena is involved.

Money in the Bank Ladder Match

Alberto Del Rio vs. Chris Jericho vs. Dean Ambrose vs. Kevin Owens vs. Sami Zayn vs. Cesaro

RIF: Kevin Owens

Joe: Dean Ambrose

Michael: Kevin Owens

Dan: Kevin Owens

When I look at all six men involved in this match, Kevin Owens and Dean Ambrose stick out as clear favourites. Jericho’s story about creating Money in the Bank yet he’s never been able to win it is compelling in a way, he’s really just the veteran guy that’s going to put over the younger guys. Del Rio is barely relevant since the failed experiment that was The League of Nations and you’d imagined they’ve learned from their Sheamus mistake.

Also ruling out Zayn and Cesaro. I like both guys, don’t get me wrong, but it’s highly unlikely either one of them winning here. Saying that, Zack Ryder won at WrestleMania and I said he had no chance. If it does happen I would side with Cesaro as the most likely of the two, purely based on his tenure in the company. I still believe both guys have a very bright future.

Ambrose would be a great alternative as he could really benefit from holding the briefcase. His character as a “lunatic” would present scenarios of unpredictability leading to a possible cash in attempt. It would fit his persona and gimmick well.

Owens is the one that makes the most sense to me. They need more top level heels and Owens is perfect for it. If you overlook his body type you can see that he’s a tremendous performer, and arguably the best talker in the company. His tweets are hilarious. You can’t help but love the guy despite being a heel. if he had the briefcase in his position he would rub it in all the time while threatening to cash it at any moment. I also hope it leads to him winning the WWE Title fairly soon after because he deserves it.

WWE World Heavyweight Championship

Seth Rollins vs. Roman Reigns ©

RIF: Roman Reigns

Joe: Roman Reigns

Michael: Roman Reigns

Dan: Roman Reigns

Reigns wins, lol! Vince is so keen on making Reigns ‘The Guy’ that he’ll be leaving the title on him beyond SummerSlam. It won’t surprise me if he enters WrestleMania as the champ! It really isn’t working for Reigns. They should probably pay more attention to ratings being down, attendance being down, Roman’s merch not really setting the world on fire and audiences, both young and old, not accepting him. He’s a good performer, but when he’s in the spot he is in I feel he should be more of a difference maker.

It’s great seeing Rollins back. He’s one of the best all round performers in WWE. He’s a workaholic that loves the business and the business loves him right back. He’s going to continue to improve, that’s for sure.

A part of me feels as though this could very well end up as a draw. It wouldn’t surprise me if that was to happen. I believe WWE is going to keep it simple for Money in the Bank and just have Reigns beat Rollins, but in a fashion that still leaves the door open for a rematches at Battleground and SummerSlam.

*Tie Breaker*

Name the opening contest

Joe: US title

Michael: MITB

Dan: Tag titles

Complete shot in the dark. I’m siding with the MITB match as that is likely to roar up the crowd from the get go.

Enjoy Money in the Bank, guys. Feel free to post your predictions in the comment section below and I’ll be back with my random thoughts on Money in the Bank.
