WWE Payback 2016 Predictions

WWE Payback comes to you live from Illinois. The show is headlined by the WWE World Heavyweight Championship match between the champion Roman Reigns and the challenger AJ Styles, with the threat of the Doc Gallows and Karl Anderson looming large in the background. The Intercontinental and Women’s titles will also be on the line tonight.

Since we are predicting the outcomes, here is the league table thus far:

1 Joe – 53pts

2 RIF – 50.5pts

3 Dan – 46.5pts

4 Michael – 45.5pts

Pre Show

WWE United States Championship

Kalisto © vs. Ryback

RIF: Ryback

Joe: Kalisto

Michael: Ryback

Dan: Kalisto

What a waste of time Kalisto’s championship run has been. It isn’t his fault, he could have been booked better. The big rumour is that Ryback is only going to be a transitional champ in favour of either Apollo Crews or the young upstart, John Cena. I can see that happening, just means they have to give the title to someone like Ryback, though L

Dolph Ziggler vs. Baron Corbin

RIF: Baron Corbin

Joe: Baron Corbin

Michael: Baron Corbin

Dan: Baron Corbin

I’m holding on for hope that Ziggler can actually beat Corbin but it’s not happening. Corbin won the Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royal in his main roster debut, he isn’t going to go and lose to the guy that loses to everyone else, is he? I do think we’ll get a surprisingly good match. I always remember Corbin’s match against Joe at Takeover: Brooklyn, so the guy can work. I’m saying Corbin wins with the End of Days after some light cheating.

Number one contenders match for the WWE World Tag Team Championship

Enzo Amore & Colin Cassady vs. The Vaudevillians

RIF: The Vaudevillians

Joe: The Vaudevillians

Michael: Enzo & Cass

Dan: Enzo & Cass

Anyway, this is the finals for the number one contenders tag team tournament, correct? If we’re aiming at The New Day and they’re into full-on corny babyface territory, you’ve got to go with the Vaudevillians. They need it more than Enzo and Cass, they’re heels so they fit the match better, and the Dudley Boyz can very easily show up to set up a table match with Enzo and Cass at Extreme Rules. I’d definitely give it to the Villains.

WWE Divas Championship

Charlotte © /w/ Ric Flair vs. Natalya /w/ Bret Hart

RIF: Charlotte

Joe: Charlotte

Michael: Charlotte

Dan: Charlotte

Before I talk about the match, I just want to say how awesome it is that Bret Hart has the all clear from cancer. It’s going to be one hell of a pop for his entrance! As for the match, it’s going to be typical of Charlotte where she’ll win after help from her dad. It’s going to be a decent match, their previous encounter in NXT was quality, so I expect the same and then some.

Sami Zayn vs. Kevin Owens

RIF: Kevin Owens

Joe: Kevin Owens

Michael: Kevin Owens

Dan: Sami Zayn

This has the makings of feud of the year. They need to go down the rote that made feuds like Macho v DDP and Tommy Dreamer v Raven famous. Whether they go all out or it’s over in a few minutes, it’ll be memorable. I wouldn’t give Sami a singles win over Owens on the main roster right away, so I’ll pick KO. Got to make Sami go through a journey and earn that.

Dean Ambrose vs. Chris Jericho

RIF: Dean Ambrose

Joe: Chris Jericho

Michael: Dean Ambrose

Dan: Dean Ambrose

This is a tough one. I would’ve never picked Jericho over Styles at WrestleMania, and we see how that went. My first inclination is to say Ambrose obviously wins, but does he? I kinda love Chris Jericho as a shifty old man who still happens to be on top of his game. I’m going to stick to my guns and predict a victory for Ambrose. I can also predict that Ambrose will fall backwards into the ropes and making everyone stand still and watch him for several seconds.

WWE Intercontinental Championship

The Miz © vs. Cesaro

RIF: Cesaro (via DQ)

Joe: Cesaro

Michael: Cesaro

Dan: Cesaro

Zack Ryder got pushed aside quickly, right? At least he got his much deserved WrestleMania moment. I thought this would have been a fatal four way with him, Cesaro and Jericho getting in the mix. It’s tempting for WWE to put the IC title on Cesaro straight away, but that’s the wrong route to go down. Let be a back and forth contest with a ton of near falls and submission attempts. When it looks as if Cesaro is about to win, have Miz get himself disqualified someway. The title change can happen at a later date. Plus, I fucking love Miz’s cocky Hollywood heel character!

WWE World Heavyweight Championship

Roman Reigns © vs. AJ Styles

RIF: Roman Reigns

Joe: AJ Styles

Michael: Roman Reigns

Dan: AJ Styles

Who would have thought this time last year that AJ Styles would be competing in the main event of a WWE ppv for the title? Crazy, I know! There’s so much intrigue regarding the involvement of Doc Gallows and Karl Anderson. For weeks, AJ has claimed that he has no involvement with his former Bullet Club buddies, and his relationship with them is strictly friendship. I’m going to stick my neck on the line and say that Gallows & Anderson will turn on Styles, making it one of the biggest swerves in history. Does that mean they’re working with Reigns? Only time will tell……

Enjoy Extreme Rules, guys.
