WWE is looking to make history by attracting 100,000 people to the AT&T Stadium in Dallas, Texas, and to break the WWE attendance record of 93,173 set at WrestleMania III at the Pontiac Silverdome in Pontiac, Michigan.
The roster has been hit hard by injuries to stars such as John Cena, Randy Orton, Cesaro, Seth Rollins, Sting and more. Those names I’ve just mentioned as big, high drawing names. Sure Sting will appear as part of the Hall of Fame section, but not in a competitive match (which was rumoured to be against Undertaker). This has led to many fans to question just how goof this WrestleMania will be.
Fans have also questioned the quality of the booking leading up to this show. It hasn’t been great, and some matches just don’t make sense. They teased a potential match between Brock Lesnar and Bray Wyatt, but they changed it to Lesnar v Ambrose (more on that later) and Bray isn’t even on the card. If he gets dumped into the Andre the Giant Battle Royal I would be pissed because Wyatt is far, far better than that!
As you know, I will be attending this year’s WrestleMania. Man, it’s been a long time coming. Regardless of the quality of the show, I’m going to enjoy this show for all it’s worth.
As always, this is a predictions blog and here is the league table, so far:
RIF – 32.5 pts
Joe – 32 pts
Dan – 28.5 pts
Michael -27.5 pts
The Usos vs. The Dudley Boys
RIF: The Usos
Joe: The Usos
Michael: The Usos
Dan: The Usos
Meh, not remotely interested in this one. Why not have a triple threat tag title match instead? Going for the Usos to win as the Dudleys are only around to put over younger stars. A victory here against one of the most respected teams that helped shape The Attitude Era could serve as the launch pad for a new push.
Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royal
RIF: Braun Strowman
Joe: Bray Wyatt
Dan: Big Show
While I think it’s nice that WWE pay tribute to Andre the Giant like this, but it doesn’t really mean anything for the winner. All that has to change this year, hence why I’m going for Strowman. Got Mark Henry as a backup as it’s heavily rumoured that the World’s Strongest Man will retire at ‘Mania…..on the pre-show.
Team Total Divas vs. Team Bad & Blonde
RIF: Team Total Divas
Joe: Team Bad & Blonde
Michael: Team Total DIvas
Dan: Team Bad & Blonde
Eva Marie? Eva Fucking Marie is competing at WrestleMania? Then again, so did Giant Gonzaules and Great Khali so I shouldn’t be too pissed off about it but EVA FUCKIN’ MARIE? Anyway, faces to win because it’ll make a good episode of Total Divas (plus it gives Brie Bella a nice send off, too)
Chris Jericho vs. AJ Styles
RIF: AJ Styles
Joe: Chris Jericho
Michael: AJ Styles
Dan: Chris Jericho
Hands up if you bought a YSAJ shirt. If so, I feel bad for you, son. I’m confused why AJ isn’t in the ladder match for the IC title, but working with a veteran like Chris Jericho on the biggest stage of the year is by no means a step down. Considering how professional Jericho is in putting younger stars over, coupled with his part-time business terms with WWE, any outcome other than a clean win for Styles would be a shock. Expect Styles to win via submission.
WWE Intercontinental Championship
Kevin Owens © vs. Sami Zayn vs. Stardust vs. Dolph Ziggler vs. The Miz vs. Zack Ryder vs. Sin Cara
RIF: Kevin Owens
Joe: Kevin Owens
Michael: Zack Ryder
Dan: Sami Zayn
If Michael is correct with his prediction I would give everyone reading this a blowjob! He has his theories and he’s entitled to that. Kevin Owens is almost certain to retain his title, as it’s hard to imagine any of his opponents walking into Monday Night RAW the next day carrying the belt. Sami Zayn, another key contender given his unfinished business with Owens, is even less likely to win. He has yet to be established on the main roster. The other five contenders, some of which are wonderfully talented in the ring, are modern-day enhancement acts. Owens for the win.
WWE United States Championship
Kalisto © vs. Ryback
At first I would have said Ryback, but I’ve changed my mind to Kalisto. WWE have high hopes for Kalisto, and rightfully so. The guy is so fucking talented. I remember watching him at a live event in Newcastle, and he had the entire crowd on their feet. He truly is a talented guy and is on course of becoming the new Rey Mysterio. Not really too fussed on Ryback, but I do like him in the bully heel role. He’s believable in that role. Going forward, they could split up the Lucha Dragons by having Sin Cara turning on his partner since he didn’t win the IC title and is jealous of Kalisto’s success. As for Ryback, he’ll just fade off into mid card obscurity.
New Day vs. The League of Nations
RIF: New Day
Joe: League of Nations
Michael: New Day
Dan: League of Nations
I’m really, really interested in seeing New Day’s entrance. The rumour going round is that they’ll be appearing on unicorns. Man, that would be hilarious! I do wish the titles were on the line here, but it is what it is. Not the titles on the line could suggest LON winning, but I’m sticking with New Day because NEW DAY ROCKS!!!!
WWE Divas Championship
Charlotte © vs. Sasha Banks vs. Becky Lynch
RIF: Sasha Banks
Michael: Sasha Banks
Dan: Sasha Banks
Emotions will be high during this defining moment for three passionate NXT breakout stars who have smashed every glass ceiling placed above them so far. I wish Bayley was involved in this but I’m still happy with what we’ve got. Charlotte has become an exceptional heel, Becky continues to outperform her position, and Banks adds a spark to matches that her peers do not. Mark our words: One day these remarkably talented performers will headline a main roster pay-per-view. And you know what, they deserve it. I’m going with Sasha Banks for the win. She’s going to be a key player for the WWE’s women’s division for years to come, and that begins at WrestleMania.
No Holds Barred
Brock Lesnar vs. Dean Ambrose
RIF: Dean Ambrose
Joe: Brock Lesnar
Michael: Dean Ambrose
Dan: Brock Lesnar
Talk about a mismatch, huh? Dean Ambrose has only recently managed to escape the WWE’s black hole of 50/50 booking, but having said that, it’s still the case that every major feud and heavyweight championship match he’s been involved with has resulted in his ultimate loss. a win for Ambrose would propel him to main event stardom, and it’s the smarter long-term bet perhaps. Like I said for the divas triple threat match, this has the potential to be match of the night!
Hell in a Cell
Shane McMahon vs. The Undertaker
RIF: The Undertaker
Joe: Shane McMahon
Michael: The Undertaker
Dan: Shane McMahon
Well this was unexpected, wasn’t it? The added stipulations make this intriguing. It can go either way, I’m really on the fence, but I’m leaning towards Undertaker winning. This could be amazing, but it’s also questionable about the quality considering their respective ages. Also, no matter who wins, the fact that the other person lost is a shame. Having Shane go up against someone like Sheamus representing Vince would have been a safer bet, but if WWE has a set goal in mind, then we’ll just have to see what is in store.
WWE World Heavyweight Championship
Triple H © vs. Roman Reigns
RIF: Roman Reigns
Joe: Roman Reigns
Michael: Roman Reigns
Dan: Roman Reigns
Love it or hate it, Roman Reigns will cement himself as the top guy in the WWE. It’s going to happen, get over it. Personally, I’m not a fan of Roman Reigns but I’ll give him his due, he has improved a lot. The problem is that WWE are buried in the hope that Reigns would generate grassroots support the same way Daniel Bryan had. It hasn’t happened and it’ll never will. The No DQ stipulation will add another layer to this match, it could even help Hunter by having someone come out to cost Roman the match, but I can’t see that happening. Roman Reigns will end WrestleMania as the WWE World Heavyweight Champion, in front of the biggest crowd in WrestleMania history.
Guess the attendance
It’s going to be within the 100,000+ area. No doubt about it. The question is, how legit will it be?
As I write this it is 8:40 US time, and in five hours’ time I’ll be on my way to the AT&T Stadium for ‘Mania. Words can’t express how excited I am for it. It’s a life goal which will be crossed off my list.
Whichever way you’ll be watching WrestleMania, enjoy it. Feel free to post your predictions in the comment section below and I’ll be back real soon with my WrestleMania review.
