WWE Money in the Bank Prediction Contest

The third WWE special event in 28 days takes place tonight and it’s Money in the Bank, which is often ranked as one of the best events in the WWE calendar. I believe that Money in the Bank should be considered in the same bracket of the likes of, WrestleMania, Royal Rumble, SummerSlam, and Survivor Series in terms of importance. Although MITB has since eclipsed Survivor Series in recent years.

The death of Dusty Rhodes this past Thursday was a sad one. He meant so much to so many on the roster and there will be a lot of heavy hearts I’m sure. I’m sure the show will open with a tribute graphic to the Dream, but more tributes will take place this Monday during and after Raw.

As always, we’ll be predicting the outcomes of the matches and here’s the league table so far:

RIF – 78pts

Michael – 63pts

Joe/Dan – 60pts

R-Truth vs. King Barrett

RIF: King Barrett

Joe:  King Barrett

Michael: R-Truth

Dan: King Barrett

I guess I’m biased towards Barrett because he’s English, but he’s been pigeon holed as a loser and it’s hard for me to invest my time in someone who has been portrayed as a loser. R-Truth can be funny at times, but he shouldn’t win here.  Barrett has been booked terribly as King of the Ring, Mable was a better King than Barrett. Why don’t they want to push this guy as a bigger star? It rattles my brain. Send him to NXT and let Hunter make something out of him.

WWE Tag Team Championship

The New Day (Xavier Woods & Big E) © vs. The Prime Time Players

RIF: New Day

Joe:  New Day

Michael: New Day

Dan: New Day

Nice to see the Players get a tag title shot because they I think they deserve the opportunity. Doesn’t mean that they’ll win it thought. I still feel that PTP need to work on their act just a bit and wrestle more like a tag team i.e. do more double team maneuvers. As for New Day, I love those guys. They’re so entertaining and are quickly becoming a guilty pleasure of mine. As they say, “New Day Rocks!” Hope on over to Youtube and search for ‘Big E with sausages and milk’, you can thank me later.

WWE Intercontinental Championship

Ryback © vs. Big Show

RIF: Ryback

Joe:  Ryback

Michael: Ryback

Dan: Ryback

I had to question the reason why the Shellshock spot was done on RAW. Wouldn’t that have been the key moment for this match? Shouldn’t we as fans be thinking, ‘can Ryback do his finisher on Big Show?’ I’d understand if Ryback went for that spot and buckle under Show’s weight which would put the champ at a disadvantage heading into this match? Ryback just won the title recently, so it would be a mistake to take it straight off him and Big Show is just a veteran heel for Ryback to beat. I can’t say I’m looking forward to this one. Well I could, but that would be a lie.

WWE Divas Championship

Nikki Bella © vs. Paige

RIF: Nikki Bella

Joe: Nikki Bella

Michael: Paige

Dan: Nikki Bella

I’m confused. The Bella Twins went from heel to babyface to heel again without any real turn. That’s just lazy booking. It’s just the Bellas that have this problem. Just recent on Raw, Nikki Bella defeated Summer Rea, who last time I check was a heel, and on Main Event, Layla and Emma took on Tamina and Naomi even though both Layla and Emma are heels. I don’t even know what Alicia Fox is supposed to be. She turns face/heel every week. Explain why the reasons behind their turns. We shouldn’t be struggling with who’s heel or face. It’s lazy booking. Nikki to win and afterwards, both Bellas to attack Paige which will lead to Charlotte making the save. New blood is desperately needed in the stale Divas division.

Money in the Bank Ladder Match

Dolph Ziggler vs. Neville vs. Roman Reigns vs. Randy Orton vs. Kofi Kingston vs. Sheamus vs. Kane

RIF: Roman Reigns

Joe:  Roman Reigns

Michael: Roman Reigns

Dan: Roman Reigns

Ummmm, I wonder who’s going to win this! The booking for this is going to be straight forward with Neville, Kofi and Dolph providing the crazy spots and the likes of Orton, Kane and Sheamus to work a safe match. Reigns is the heavy favourite it must be said. He’s the future and the current chosen one. If it’s anyone other than Reigns that wins I’d be very surprised. Be nice if Kofi won as a reward for his years of service, but there’s no way he’ll win. As always, the question we tend to ask ourselves after this sort of match is, when will he cash in? Check out the tie breakers for more info.

John Cena vs. Kevin Owens

RIF: Kevin Owens

Joe:  Kevin Owens

Michael: John Cena via DQ

Dan: John Cena via DQ

As things stand, Cena vs. Owens from Elimination Chamber is my pick for match of the year. I hope they can top it because when you continue to work with the same person more than once things tend to gel. I’m 50/50 about my prediction. WWE wants to make Owens a top heel, and for him to do that he needs to beat Cena again so he can be viewed as a force to be reckoned with. If Cena does win then I hope it’s by disqualification because Owens getting pinned is ridiculous. Credit to Cena’s promo work in recent weeks. He’s gone above and beyond to make Owens his equal (why couldn’t he do that for Rusev & Bray Wyatt?). This feud is designed to make Owens look like a star. I’m sure Cena knows that he’s no longer the future of the WWE and that his star power can be put to good use to making other look like stars and plant the seeds for the long-term future of the WWE. Trading wins is all too common, so let’s see something different. Let’s go Owens.

WWE World Heavyweight Championship

Ladder Match

Seth Rollins © vs. Dean Ambrose

RIF: Seth Rollins

Joe:  Seth Rollins

Michael: Seth Rollins

Dan: Dean Ambrose

These guys work great together and I’m expecting this one to top the entire series of matches they’ve ever had. Ambrose is an excellent brawler, but he’s much better as a straight up wrestler. If Rollins were to lose then they might as well thrown all the booking they did over last year to build him up as a top guy in the bin. He won the MITB, won the title at WrestleMania and to lose the title in less than three months would have been all for nothing. I can envision this to be a quality bout. Their chemistry is always point on and they have the potential to deliver the goods. Needless to say I have high hopes for this one.

*tie breakers*

What will be the opening match?

RIF: Intercontinental title match

Michael: Tag title match

Dan: Tag title match

A shot in the dark. I do think the contract match will be booked in the middle of the card though.

Will we see a cash in tonight?

Joe:  No

Michael: No

Dan: Yes

With Roman being the likely winner of MITB I can’t see a cash in happening tonight. Reigns may attempt it, but the Authority will save Rollins. If you recall, they said they won’t help him during the match. There are two events where it’s most likely for Reigns to cash in. First off, it’s SummerSlam. Rumoured match is Rollins v Lesnar with Reigns making it a triple threat which is like a WrestleMania re-match except this is official. The other option: WrestleMania 31. A triple threat match with all three former Shield members main-eventing the biggest show ever.

Feel free to share your predictions in the comments below, enjoy MITB and join me again for my next prediction contest.
