Payback is the opportunity for WWE to get back onto the right track after the poor booking at Extreme Rules. I’m intrigued to see what will happen during the fatal four way main event and to see if those Shield reunion rumours are true. Will it happen? More on that later. The other matches that catch my eye are the 2/3 falls match for the tag titles and a re-match from King of the Ring between Neville and Bad News Barrett.
This is apart of our yearly prediction contest tournament and here is the league table as it starts after four pay per views:
Before I get into the predictions I want to announce that we will not be predicting the outcomes for Elimination Chamber as it is a WWE Network exclusive and not a pay per view. I will however still be doing a Random Thoughts Blog on the show.

If Seth Rollins loses, Kane will be fired
Dean Ambrose vs. Roman Reigns vs. Seth Rollins © vs. Randy Orton
RIF: Seth Rollins
Michael: Seth Rollins
Dan: Seth Rollins
Joe: Seth Rollins
Almost a year after the Shield disbanded, we now see all three members involved in a high profile pay per view championship match. With the added inclusion of Randy Orton, this means that four of the WWE’s most talented guys will be in the ring at one time. Dean Ambrose’s inclusion seemed to come out of nowhere, but it gives the former United States champion a chance to show the top brass what he can do in big match situations. With the added stipulation involving Kane receiving his marching orders should Rollins lose, expected the director of operations to get involved. That will only ramp up his position as the top heel in the company, which builds towards that much anticipated Brock Lesnar return in the summer.

I Quit match
John Cena © vs. Rusev /w/ Lana
RIF: John Cena
Michael: John Cena
Dan: John Cena
Joe: John Cena
If they have Cena v Rusev IV at Money in the Bank, I will post my bank details on line! This has to be the final match of the series. Their match at Extreme Rules should have been the final one but that isn’t the case! The bigger story surrounding this match is Lana’s expected face turn. The seeds where planted at ER where she acknowledged the chants from the crowds and Rusev has begun to expel her from ringside. For all of last year Rusev has booked strong throughout, and it looks to be downhill from here. I praise to god that I’m wrong as Rusev would make an awesome main event level heel. Does the WWE have some long time plan for the guy who was built around being unbeatable? Having him say “I Quit” and having his mouthpiece walkout on him will only make him look even weaker than ever. In short: CENA WINS LOL~!
King Barrett vs. Neville
RIF: King Barrett
Michael: King Barrett
Dan: King Barrett
Joe: King Barrett
Since getting the call up from NXT, Neville has had some incredible matches in such a short space of time and that’s no surprise because Neville is one of the best performers in the WWE today. I still remember watching him wrestling in his hometown of Newcastle in front of 80 people years ago and here he is wrestling on a WWE pay per view. I’m immensely proud of the guy. It’s interesting to note that the majority of his opponents he’s face so far have been either former or current champions. That shows management have confidence in him. Don’t screw it up guys. Barrett has just recently won King of the Ring so losing here would make no sense and only diminish the value of KOTR. Its bad news for Neville, but good news for Barrett (shit pun I know!)
Dolph Ziggler vs. Sheamus
Michael: Dolph Ziggler
Dan: Dolph Ziggler
How silly was that ‘kiss me arse’ stipulation? The match itself was okay, but it suffered from a match gimmick which didn’t suit the seriousness of the rivalry. Plus the announcers had a good time saying ‘arse’ and giggling like naughty schoolgirls. Terrible decision. I’m of the opinion that this match should have a stipulation. I mean if you were embarrassed on worldwide pay per view by being made to kiss Sheamus’ pale bottom you too would want revenge, right? If Sheamus is going to get pushed as a top heel, and perhaps a run as Intercontinental Champion, he needs the victory here.
WWE Tag Team Championship
2/3 Falls match
The New Day (Kofi Kingston & Big E) ©vs. Tyson Kidd & Cesaro
RIF: The New Day
Michael: Tyson Kidd & Cesaro
Dan: Tyson Kidd & Cesaro
Joe: Tyson Kidd & Cesaro
I think The New Day are awesome. Heck, New Day Rocks! If their recent rivalry is anything to go by, then this should be an enjoyable addition to the show. Plus with the added 2 out of 3 falls stipulation, we should expect a lot of twists and turns along the way in what is bound to be a lengthy, enjoyable match. It be silly for New Day to drop the titles after a month. That’s unlikely to happen. With their new found heel persona continuing to grow, having them drop the titles back to Kidd & Cesaro is just five steps backwards.
Ryback vs. Bray Wyatt
RIF: Bray Wyatt
Dan: Bray Wyatt
Neither guy had anything going for them post WrestleMania so this just feels as if it’s been thrown together just to give them something to do. There hasn’t been much hype or buildup around this match as we maybe should have. Wyatt has been quiet since ‘Mania, and hopes were high when he did start an active feud again which will help restore his prominence. I just don’t feel that Ryback is the right type of opponent for Wyatt to go after. It just doesn’t feel right. Bray simply needs the victory over Ryback for the good of his main event prospects, which seem to be well out of touching distance for the ‘new face of fear’.
The Bella Twins (Brie & Nikki) vs. Naomi & Tamina
RIF: Naomi & Tamina
Michael: Naomi & Tamina
Dan: The Bella Twins
Joe: The Bella Twins
Why can’t they put the title on the line here? It’s as if they want Nikki to overtake AJ as longest running Divas Champion (wouldn’t put it past them mind you). Opinion may be split, but given the impact Tamina has made since returning as Naomi’s bodyguard, it may turn out to be a good move in the long run (and remember, this storyline was originally going to be given to AJ Lee before she retired). The women’s division just seems to be weak without AJ or Paige right now so expect this to be booked towards the start of the show. The winner? Don’t be surprised if the heels won with Naomi finally getting the belt at either Elimination Chamber or MITB.
Curtis Axel & Macho Mandow vs. The Ascension
RIF: Axel & Mandow
Dan: Axel & Mandow
Personally, I think Axel and Sandow (or Mandow) are miles better than a comedy act. Sure it’s fun in the short term, but when you get pigeon holed as a comedy character it’s hard to break out of it. As for the Ascension, for all that they’ve achieved in NXT might as well be chucked into the bin from what we’ve seen from them thus far on the main roster. Remember those rumours where they were going to pair up with Bray Wyatt to form Wyatt Family 2.0? Do it. It’s better than jobbing to the Lucha Dragons or those guys that hang around with that little bull man. Or even better, send them back down to NXT, Trips knows how to book those guys properly.
Will the Shield reform?
Will they ever reunite? Yeah of course they will, it’s just a question of when. It won’t happen at Payback, doesn’t mean we won’t see them bust out the classic Shield triple powerbomb for old time’s sake.
Enjoy Payback guys. Feel free to share your thoughts, opinions and predictions in the comments below.
