WWE WrestleMania 31 Prediction Contest

Although the build-up has been poor I’m still looking forward to WrestleMania. I always do every year without fail. Me and a few friends always make a big deal out of it by hosting our own WrestleMania House Parties. The card is pretty stacked which is expected for WrestleMania. Aside from that potentially awesome ladder match, I’m so looking forward to finally seeing Sting compete in a WWE ring. Wrestling fans of my age *cough*28*cough* have been waiting for this moment for years. Undertaker will return for the first time since losing at WrestleMania 30, his opponent it the self-professed “new face of fear”, Bray Wyatt. Brock Lesnar will defend the WWE World Heavyweight Championship for a third time, facing Roman Reigns in the main event and there’s speculation that Seth Rollins could be the first man to cash in his Money in the Bank contract on the night.

WrestleMania 30 was one of the most memorable events in ‘Mania history. Daniel Bryan (remember him?) overcame the odds to becoming the new WWE World Heavyweight Championship, The Undertaker suffering his first WrestleMania loss and Hulk Hogan, Stone Cold Steve Austin and The Rock began the event with that awesome opening segment (“Silverdome”). None of the three former wrestlers have been advertised for the event, though The Rock has suggested that he could make an appearance. WrestleMania always springs up a few surprises so this year’s event should be no different. Including the Pre-show, this is going to be a six hour event. Brace yourselves, it’s going to be a long night!

As always, this is a prediction contest and here’s the league table so far:

1. Michael & Dan – 21pts
2. RIF – 18pts
3. Joe – 15pts

Let’s get to it!

WWE Tag Team Championship
Los Matadores vs. Tyson Kidd & Cesaro © vs. The New Day (Big E & Kofi Kingston) vs. The Usos
RIF: Tyson Kidd & Cesaro
Michael: Tyson Kidd & Cesaro
Dan: Tyson Kidd & Cesaro
Joe: The Usos
I honestly don’t see any need to take the titles off Kidd & Cesaro. The only team which provides to be a threat are The Usos. The New Day hasn’t caught on since they formed and that’s a shame because I think highly of all three of those guys. Los Matadores just seem to be making the numbers in this one so I don’t consider them to be a threat. A Uso win could get the crowd fired up but it’s unnecessary right now. Could be entertaining provided it gets given the time to develop.

Andre The Giant Memorial Battle Royal
RIF: Damian MizDow – Ryback – The Miz
Michael: The Miz – Goldust – Damian MizDow
Dan: Goldust – The Miz – Ryback
Joe: Sheamus – Damian MizDow –Ryback
Dissapointed that this has been relegated to the pre-show, I mean, it’s not as if they can’t fit this on a four hour show, right? I know what you’re saying, there can only be one winner dumbass! Well, that’s true but I wanted to spice things up here. Last year, Cesaro won it without being advertised so I wanted all of us to have a fighting chance here hence why we’ve gone for three picks. The picks are in order, so let’s say if my pick Mizdow won I’ll receive 3points whiles Michael will only get 1 point. Ryback’s size and strength gives him a shot for victory whiles Sheamus could make a surprise return. Nice to see NXT’s Hideo Itami participate in the match, just don’t make him look like a loser Vince! Goldust’s in-ring career is coming to an end so one final win on the grandest stage of all is only fitting for this future Hall of Famer. The Miz shouldn’t be counted out. He could win and during his celebration, he could get MizDow to present him with the trophy only for Damian to attack him, destroy the trophy (again) and thus turn face in the process. I’m sticking with MizDow, he’s the most popular babyface in this match and his split from the Miz will become official with both a victory and an elimination of his former tag team partner.

Randy Orton vs. Seth Rollins
RIF: Randy Orton
Michael: Randy Orton
Dan: Seth Rollins
Joe: Seth Rollins
There’s no doubt in my mind that if given 15-20 minutes this match will be great, although the build has been poor. A common theme for this year’s ‘Mania. That aside, I reckon this will be a great match as both guys are simply phenomenal in the ring and very rarely disappoint. I’m sure everyone wants to see the younger guy (Rollins) win here, but it makes more sense for Orton to be victorious here. Rollins put him on the shelf for four months and now Orton can finally get his revenge because Rollins can’t get away. If Rollins wins then Orton will look foolish in the fact that he failed to get revenge from his injury. Babyfaces are supposed to get revenge, so that’s what Orton will do.

AJ Lee & Paige vs. The Bella Twins
RIF: AJ Lee & Paige
Michael: The Bella Twins
Dan: AJ Lee & Paige
Joe: AJ Lee & Paige
It makes very little sense for the Bella Twins to win here. Nikki Bella has held the Divas title since Survivor Series, but she has beat AJ at two straight pay per views. Last Monday on RAW, Nikki not only defeated Paige but Paige and AJ ended up in a brawl so expect them both to play up to the dissension in the ranks story. Admittedly, I’m disappointed that the title isn’t on the line here. A fatal four way lumberjill match would have been nice just so more people can make an appearance on the card. When will Paige win the Divas Championship? If not the next night on Raw (a prediction which I successful made last year I may add) then it has got to be the London TV tapings (which I’ll be attending).

WWE Intercontinental Championship
Ladder Match
Dolph Ziggler vs. Dean Ambrose vs. Bad News Barrett © vs. R-Truth vs. Luke Harper vs. Daniel Bryan vs Stardust
RIF: Daniel Bryan
Michael: Dolph Ziggler
Dan: Dean Ambrose
Joe: Daniel Bryan
The term ‘showstealer’ springs to mind here. When you look at the talent you can understand why that phase has been linked to this match. I liked the build to it even though the whole hot potato angle seemed a bit silly, but it put over how much each guy wanted the title. That’s what title matches should be about. So who’s going to win? Let’s rule out the heels for a start, it’s a three way split between Ziggler, Ambrose and Bryan. Personally, I would love to see Luke Harper win. Yes, Luke F’N Harper. He’s my favourite guy in WWE right now but I just can’t see him winning here. If he did, I’d be very surprised! I can imagine him taking some sick bumps onto, or even off a ladder! Please don’t allow Daniel Bryan to do any crazy neck bumps. I know wrestlers have that desire to steal the show, so they do crazy stuff especially in ladder matches. He doesn’t need to do it, though. Just win the match and be smart about it.

Triple H vs. Sting
RIF: Sting
Michael: Sting
Dan: Triple H
Joe: Triple H
It’s going to be so weird to finally see the Icon compete in a WWE ring. He’s the one guy us older fans have always dreamt of seeing in WWE since God knows when. It would have been nice had this happened 10 years ago, but that’s not going to change now. He’s had countless opportunities to jump ship to WWE but Sting was just way too loyal to both WCW and TNA, and in this business you’ve got to admire his loyalty.
The build to the match has been good. Sting was sick and tired of seeing Hunter destroying lives and he’s there to stop him, hence the ‘vigilante’ nickname. Hunter claims Sting was scared of him all these years, so we’ll see if it’s true. There’s no reason for Hunter to win. Just like last year when he put over Daniel Bryan and The Shield, Hunter is pretty much a legendary loser (no disrespect). I hope Sting has enough gas in the tank; his final days in TNA were pretty shoddy with him wrestling in a T-Shirt. Hunter will be on the offence for much of the match, building up to a Sting comeback. Will he win with the Scorpion Deathlock or the Scorpion Death-Drop? I don’t know. I highly doubt that this will be his only WrestleMania appearance either. Wrestling in front of 100,000 at next year’s WrestleMania will be very tempting for the WCW legend.

The Undertaker vs. Bray Wyatt
RIF: The Undertaker
Michael: The Undertaker
Dan: The Undertaker
Joe: The Undertaker
Out of all the matches on this card, this is the one that’s given me the biggest headache of all. Now that the streak is over it’s anyone’s ball game. Undertaker hasn’t been seen on TV since WrestleMania 30 and it’s been all on Bray to build the hype up for this one, and what a great job he has done too. I wish Undertaker appeared on RAW and scare the crap out of Bray because his presence would have meant more.
Bray was been campaigning to be the new face of fear in World Wrestling Entertainment much like what Undertaker has been for the past 25 years. It makes all the sense in the world for Wyatt to win since he is going to be a top guy for years to come but can The Undertaker actually lose two years in a row at WrestleMania? It is almost impossible to believe. Bray losing won’t hurt him, ‘Taker is a veteran who can make Wyatt look like a star in defeat.
I still enjoy watching Undertaker. I have faith in him being in good shape and being ready. I’ve seen those Instagram pictures that his wife Michelle McCool has posted and I’m not worried in the slightest. He’ll probably wrestle one more match next year because, as mentioned earlier, working a WrestleMania in front of 100,000 people is probably very appealing to a local Texas boy like him.

WWE United States Championship
Rusev © vs. John Cena
RIF: John Cena
Michael: Rusev
Dan: Rusev
Joe: John Cena
It’s pretty obvious that the undefeated Rusev will taste defeat for the first time at the hands of WWE’s poster boy, John Cena. Personally, I think it’s the wrong choice having Cena being the one to defeat Rusev. I’d much prefer it was someone who could get a boost from it like Dolph Ziggler, Ryback or Dean Ambrose, but I guess WWE is pretty much set in their ways when it comes to Cena overcoming the odds. The feud for the United States Championship has been a classic throwback to the evil foreigner and patriotic hero of yesteryear. It’s going to be odd seeing Cena hold a secondary title for the first time since 2005, but having a huge star like Cena holding the title is only beneficial to restoring some much needed value to a title that has been treated like a prop for so long. Out of everyone on the entire roster, Rusev is the only guy who has been booked strong on a consistent basis. It be interesting to see where he goes from here, please don’t turn him into a fun-loving, Pro USA, dancing guy just yet. He still has all the tools to be a legit main event star. It’s got me thinking, will Cena bring back the ‘spinner’ belt the next night on RAW? I kind of hoping so!

WWE World Heavyweight Championship
Brock Lesnar © vs. Roman Reigns
RIF: Roman Reigns
Michael: Brock Lesnar
Dan: Roman Reigns
Joe: Brock Lesnar
Since Brock Lesnar announced that he’s resigning with WWE and pretty much closed the door on a MMA return I’m starting to have second thoughts as to who will walk out victorious here. It’s weird situation for the WWE to be in here because if Reigns wins then people will complain, if Brock wins then people will complain about having someone who only wrestles 3-4 times a year as champion. The quality of the match should be pretty good. Reigns had a great match with Daniel Bryan at Fastlane. People are going to credit Bryan for it more as they should, but Reigns also had his moments to shine. Lesnar’s performing at such a high level and doing all kinds of amazing things in his matches (watch the triple threat match at this year’s Royal Rumble) and I think Reigns will be ready for it. They’ve probably went over the big spots in the match dozens of times in the last two months. Having that long to prepare is a huge advantage. Reigns has been destined to win the title at WrestleMania 31 since The Shield disbanded nearly 10 months ago. He looks like the prototypical WWE superstar, and he was one of the most universally liked wrestlers in the company before he got injured in September. The question remains, will he actually walk out as champion? Well……

**Tie Breakers**

Will Seth Rollins cash in his Money in the Bank contract?
RIF: Yes
Michael: Yes
Dan: Yes
Joe: Yes
I know WrestleMania ending with a heel celebrating isn’t what WWE normally goes for but Seth is going to get cheered by the “smart” crowd. How much of a boost in starpower will he get by being the first person to cash in the contract at WrestleMania? That’s pretty huge. It’s too big of a deal to pass on so DON’T PASS ON IT WWE!!!!

Who will be the first person eliminated from the Andre The Giant Battle Royal?
RIF: Curtis Axel
Michael: Zack Ryder
Dan: Adam Rose
Joe: Sin Cara
Shot in the dark, just a complete guess.

Guess the attendance (closest answer wins)
RIF: 75,000
Michael: 71,000
Dan: 73,000
Joe: 73,000
The Levi’s Stadium has a capacity of 68,500 but you need to take into consideration the floor seating also. Just looking at the stadium from a bird’s eye view (google maps represent) 75,000 seems achievable.

Whatever you’re doing for WrestleMania I hope you enjoy it. Feel free to post your predictions in the comments below.

Enjoy guys!
