The 2015 Fastlane PPV takes place this Sunday night in Memphis, Tennessee as the road to WrestleMania 31 continues to roll on. Seven matches confirmed plus the much anticipated showdown between Triple H and the icon, Sting. The WWE Championship isn’t on the line as Brock Lesnar will not be appearing. Multi time WWE/ World Heavyweight Champion, John Cena, will be competing for a secondary title for the first time since 2004 as he goes up against the undefeated Rusev. But the idea of Cena becoming the new United States Champion is secondary in comparison to the idea of Cena becoming the first person to defeat the Bulgarian strongman!
As always, we compete for points and the league table after the Royal Rumble looks like this:
Dolph Ziggler/ Ryback & Erick Rowan vs. Seth Rollins/ Kane/ Big Show
RIF: Ziggler/ Ryback & Rowan
Michael: Rollins/ Kane & Big Show
Joe: Rollins/ Kane & Big Show
Dan: Rollins/ Kane & Big Show
The faces should win. After the massive beatdown on Smackdown with the heels leaving the faces lying, a win for the good guys makes sense. Ziggler or Ryback could use a big win. Rollins is protected if he loses because he’s got the briefcase and he’s paired with big men losers, so Rollins won’t get hurt by a loss. Expect Ziggler and Co to walk out victorious.
Goldust vs. Stardust
If you’re a fan of Goldust like me then enjoy this for all it’s worth. The end is near for the guy. The Stardust character is far darker, meaner and nastier than Goldust ever was. WWE Creative could have a lot of fun with the character and, at the same time, allow Cody Rhodes to delve deeper into the persona.
WWE Tag Team Championship
The Usos © vs. Tyson Kidd & Cesaro
RIF: The Usos
Michael: Cesaro & Tyson Kidd
Joe: The Usos
Dan: The Usos
While Kidd and Cesaro have made for a solid, entertaining team, the real money at this point is in a rivalry between Jimmy and Jey and The Ascension. Expect to see The Usos successfully retain their titles in what will be an exceptional bout, especially if it receives enough time to reach the potential it has given the Superstars involved.
WWE Intercontinental Championship
Bad News Barrett © vs. Dean Ambrose
RIF: Bad News Barrett
Michael: Dean Ambrose
Joe: Dean Ambrose
Dan: Bad News Barrett
The title has been a curse as oppose to a blessing. How many times has Barrett lost nontitle matches? And when Since Barrett got pinned on Smackdown by R-Truth after some Ambrose interference, I think Barrett is going to get the win. They can keep the feud going to WrestleMania where Ambrose can win the title off him. I like both guys a lot, so I hope they get time. It will probably go 7-12 minutes with Barrett using some cheap tactic to retain the title.
WWE Divas Championship
Nikki Bella © vs. Paige
RIF: Nikki Bella
Joe: Nikki Bella
While Paige absolutely deserves the title, expect to see Nikki Bella retain as WWE continues to position she and sister Brie as the faces of women’s wrestling on the main roster. Plus her boyfriend is John Cena!!
Paige is still the future of the Divas roster, the woman who will help carry the division well into the future, but Vince McMahon sees the Bellas as a much more valuable asset at this point. I have no idea what the WrestleMania plan is or if AJ Lee will be back for it, but I assume so. Maybe there will be some multi-diva match like most years. Expect Paige to remain in the title picture going forward.
WWE United States Championship
John Cena vs. Rusev ©
RIF: John Cena via DQ
Michael: John Cena via DQ
Joe: John Cena
John Cena competing for the United States Championship? This is 2015 not 2004 right? Does anyone really think John Cena is going to win the United States Championship? It is so beneath him. However, the mere fact that the belt is on the line can only bump up the prestige of the United States title and its champion. A disqualification finish in which Rusev is forced to resort to underhanded tactics to avoid being defeated not only sets up a natural rematch weeks later, but it also proves his assumptions about Cena were wrong. Booking that finish would not leave fans satisfied, which is the point. Come WrestleMania, and the much more high-profile meeting, WWE Creative would have the opportunity to rectify that.
Winner vs Brock Lesnar for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship at WrestleMania
Roman Reigns vs. Daniel Bryan
RIF: Roman Reigns
Michael: Roman Reigns
Joe: Daniel Bryan
Dan: Roman Reigns
A loss to Reigns does not suggest that Bryan has to go away or that he will no longer be a main event star for WWE. It simply means he will not be winning the top prize in the sport for the second consecutive year on the industry’s grandest stage. I think Reigns is going to win. I know there are all these reports about there being a triple threat match, but I don’t think WWE is going down that road again. Bryan’s going to be the guy that makes Reigns look like a star and there’s no person that can do that better than him. Reigns will go on to WrestleMania to beat Brock Lesnar for the WWE Title while Bryan will sadly be stuck in the midcard against Sheamus or maybe Ziggler.
What will be the first match?
RIF: Tag title match
Michael: 6 man tag
Joe: Tag title match
Dan: IC title match
Considering the level of talent involved in the tag title match it seems to be the most likely choice. All four guys are immensely talented and it would be a great way to open up the show.
