The ninth pay per view of the year where all titles (including the US title) get defended. In recent years, NOC has hosted non-title matches which has dented the uniqueness of this event making it feel like just another pay per view. Night of Champions is headlined by the rematch between WWE Champion, Brock Lesnar and John Cena from SummerSlam. At that event, Brock dominated John Cena with Cena in a fashion that we weren’t accustomed to when it comes to John Cena matches. You know the score so far, we predict the conclusions of the matches for points. This is the league table so far:
RIF – 137.5pts
Michael – 124.5pts
It’s very tight and hard to tell as to just who will win the league come the end of the year so you know just how important it is to pick up the points at this stage of the year. Yesterday, it announced online that Roman Reigns needed emergency hernia surgery so he won’t be competing tonight. On behalf of everyone here at Rif Rasslin, we wish Roman a very speedy recovery. Let’s see what our predictions are:
Chris Jericho vs. Randy Orton
RIF: Randy Orton
Joe: Randy Orton
Michael: Randy Orton
Dan: Randy Orton
Jericho is expected to leave WWE to promote his 3rd instalment of his memoirs so expect Orton to be victorious in this one. I must admit, this match does feel rushed and put together at the last minute and I do question why Jericho needs to face Orton. Why not have Bray Wyatt be the one to put him on the shelve? It would be more beneficial for Wyatt instead of Orton. Then again, I don’t work for WWE creative…….yet. Not to sound too critical, facing Orton provides the perfect reason for Jericho to take another leave of absence; a vicious blow to the head. It would also help boost Orton and his aura of viciousness going forward. He may do so after defeat or as a means to victory, but all signs suggest he’ll treat Jericho’s head like a football.
WWE Tag Team Championship
The Usos © vs. Goldust & Stardust
RIF: Goldust & Stardust
Joe: The Usos
Michael: The Usos
Dan: Goldust & Stardust
The Rhodes Brothers turn pretty much came out of the blue. I guess the heel turn pretty much ends any future matches against RybAxel. That one has a knee injury and that’s the way they’ll get the titles off the Usos. The knee injury will become too much to overcome. They’ve been ok as Champions after they won them in February. I thought they should have dropped the titles to Harper & Rowan months ago but it obviously never happened, I say the title change will take place tonight.
Mark Henry vs. Rusev
The main event of the go-home show to a Pay Per View. Just let that sink in. I personally would have liked to see the Rusev/Swagger feud continue because Swagger was a much more sympathetic babyface character than Mark Henry. It should be a VERY physical match. They two big guys who’ll throw bombs at one another. Henry hasn’t wrestled much this year so it be interesting to see if he’s able to have a decent match. He isn’t a great in-ring performer although he did have some convincing displays during his 2011 World Champion push. Rusev should win this match in about eight minutes to continue his streak and move on to that rumoured programme against John Cena.
WWE Divas Championship
AJ Lee vs. Paige © vs. Nikki Bella
Joe: Nikki Bella
Michael: Nikki Bella
The horrible Bella Twin feud is now leaking over to the more interesting feud between Paige & AJ. Well, I say it’s interesting but that feud is beginning to lose some steam. I was optimistic back at Battleground but it hasn’t really captivated the crowd in the way I felt it should. If they did give the title to Nikki as a reward for turning against her sister then why does it have to be in a triple threat match? That’s more like a punishment then a reward. I can’t see Nikki getting the victory here. Brie will make sure of that. If Paige pins Nikki then it will allow WWE to continue the Paige vs. AJ feud since AJ wasn’t pinned. Even though I really like Paige and AJ, their feud has become really dreary.
WWE Intercontinental Championship
Dolph Ziggler © vs. The Miz
RIF: Dolph Ziggler
Joe: Dolph Ziggler
Michael: Dolph Ziggler
Dan: The Miz
I honestly can’t remember the last time I recall a meaningful feud surrounding the Intercontinental title where we’ve seen a lot of time being invested into it. Granted it isn’t the greatest feud but it still restores some much needed importance that the title has been lacking for so long. I’m a fan of both guys but the feud has incorporate some comedy elements which isn’t needed. Ziggler will retain and Miz will still get a push up the ladder after the match too. He’s done a good job with this Hollywood heel gimmick and deserves to be rewarded for it.
WWE United States Championship
Sheamus © vs. Cesaro
This is a match we’ve seen numerous times this year. They must really like working together because they work a similar style. It’s as if they’re in a competition to see who can throw the most painful looking forearm shots. Sheamus needs to drop the title to Cesaro. He’s done nothing for the title and the title has done nothing for him. It’s a prop. Plain and simple! Will they unify the US & IC titles? They should, doesn’t mean that they will. Perhaps Cesaro wins here and then moves into a programme with Ziggler to unify the two titles. Is it a real possibility or just pie in the sky?
WWE World Heavyweight Championship
John Cena vs. Brock Lesnar ©
RIF: Brock Lesnar
Joe: Brock Lesnar
Michael: John Cena
Dan: Brock Lesnar
For those who are hoping to see John Cena on the receiving end of another beat down that he received at SummerSlam then keep on dreaming. It’s not going to happen! It’s going to be a clean victory for Brock, anything else will be a surprise. Although no stipulation has been added I kind of expect at least a No Disqualification ruling to be added perhaps on the pre-show and should that happen then this match could be on par/ better than their showing at Extreme Rules in 2012. It’s a shame Lesnar is only contracted to work selected dates. It elevates the shows but the show quality has suffered severely because Paul Heyman can only do so much in a limited capacity. But still, having Brock Lesnar as champion is fresh, John Cena as champion isn’t (unless they plan to have Rollins cash in on him soon after). Should be a good match. I’m looking forward to this one!
Will Seth Rollins cash in the MITB contract?
It’s pretty far-fetched that it would happen at NOC. The cashing in is most likely to happen sometime next year perhaps.
Will Dean Ambrose return?
With Roman Reigns out, he could be the replacement to face Seth Rollins. If that were to happen, I expect Ambrose to get the victory via disqualification due to outside interference from Kane and this will lead to a possible Hell in a Cell match at the HIAC ppv.
