WWE Battleground 2014 Prediction Contest

Last year, Battleground was Contestvoted the worst pay per view in the 2013 Rif Rasslin Awards. Looking at the card for this year’s show, I doubt it will win that dubious award again. The card looks solid. I guess with the Network subscription coming to an end, they are doing everything to make the “special events” more appealing. Personally I think that all pay per views should be appealing regardless of their stature. Some of the matches that stand out for me are Seth Rollins vs. Dean Ambrose, Bray Wyatt vs. Chris Jericho, the 2/3 falls tag match and the Divas Championship match between Paige and AJ Lee. Those are the standout matches and I’m going to predict that one of those will be match of the night!

You know the score guys. We predict the outcomes for points but for no prizes. So far, the league table is as follows;

1. RIF – 104.5

2. Mike – 88.5

3. Dan – 85.5

4. Joe – 73

Personally, I think it’s still pretty open. Anything can happen between now and December. So let’s get to it!!

WWE Championship

John Cena © vs. Randy Orton vs. Kane vs. Roman Reigns

RIF: John Cena

Joe: John Cena

Michael: John Cena

Dan: John Cena

John Cena wins lol. It’s been leaked that the SummerSlam main event will be John Cena vs. Brock Lesnar so anything other than a John Cena victory isn’t happening. Reigns will work a match with Orton at SummerSlam and Kane will most likely work with Dean Ambrose. Not 100% sure about the latter though.

WWE Intercontinental Championship

20 Man Battle Royal

Alberto Del Rio vs. Big E vs. Bo Dallas vs. Cesaro vs. Curtis Axel vs. Diego vs. Dolph Ziggler vs. Fandango vs. Heath Slater vs. Kofi Kingston vs. Rob Van Dam vs. R-Truth vs. Ryback vs. Sheamus vs. Sin Cara vs. The Great Khali vs. The Miz vs. Titus O’Neil vs. Xavier Woods vs. Zack Ryder

RIF: Sheamus

Joe: Bo Dallas

Michael: Dolph Ziggler

Dan: The Miz

It sucks that Bad News Barrett picked up that shoulder injury. He had a good thing going and I was expecting a decent IC title reign. Ironic that the two main champions (BNB & Daniel Bryan) pick up lengthy injuries so early in a title reign. It sucks but I hope they get the opportunity for another title run because both guys deserve it. I don’t mind Battle Royals but personally, I would prefer if they had a tournament leading up to this show with perhaps the semi-finals also taking place on the show. Dolph Ziggler is mega over with the crowd. I would love to see him have a title reign. I just don’t get why the WWE don’t believe in him as much as they should. I’m going with Sheamus. It’s been rumoured that the IC & US titles are going to be unified and now seems the most likely opportunity to do so.

Bray Wyatt vs. Chris Jericho

RIF: Bray Wyatt

Joe: Bray Wyatt

Michael: Chris Jericho

Dan: Bray Wyatt

A multimedia Superstar who had been touring with his band, Fozzy, and enjoyed success with his Talk is Jericho podcast, Jericho was seemingly having the time of his life away from the wrestling ring, so seeing him on Raw was certainly unexpected. When the Wyatts attack him on RAW it grabbed my interest! However, creative hasn’t backed up on it. Bray Wyatt has cut several promos in which he called Jericho out for promising never to leave but then doing exactly that. Jericho never promised that he’ll never to leave. That was The Rock. Also the fans chanting “boring” during a Bray Wyatt promo (yeah, I know) isn’t a good sign. I still remember their match on NXT. It was awesome. Bray has to win here so it makes sense for Jericho to continue going to war against someone as dangerous as the Wyatt leader. A loss for Jericho won’t hurt him at all. Putting over a future star in Bray Wyatt will only enhance Jericho’s reputation. Chalk one up for Wyatt!

WWE Divas Championship

AJ Lee © vs. Paige

RIF: AJ Lee

Joe: AJ Lee

Michael: AJ Lee

Dan: AJ Lee

My two favourite female performers right now. When Paige originally won the title, I was pleased for her. Being English, I always support them but I did think they rushed it. I understand AJ wanted to take time off (and rightfully so btw) but they could have asked her to wait and drop the title at the next PPV or even the UK Raw show in May. I just don’t think Vince gets what Paige is all about. He doesn’t seem to believe in her yet. It’s expected for her to turn heel soon. It suits her in-ring style. Her reaction when AJ return suggested that. She even tried to back out of the match. A fighting champion would have accepted straight away instead of stalling. Give them 10 minutes to put on a competitive match with AJ picking up the victory out of nowhere. Oh and another thing, please cut out the CM Punk chants. They’re getting boring already!

WWE Tag Team Championship

2/3 Falls Match

The Usos © vs. The Wyatt Family

RIF: The Wyatt Family

Joe: The Wyatt Family

Michael: The Usos

Dan: The Wyatt Family

Both teams have been involved in some of the best matches of the year (as of now Shield v The Wyatts at Elimination Chamber is my pick for match of the year) and have recently torn the house down with some superb tag matches. Both teams worked an old-school style tag match at Battleground which thrilled the crowd. I’m amazed with Luke Harper’s abilities. You don’t expect a guy of his size to be as athletic as he is. With the potential of three falls to fill, the championship bout at Battleground should be the longest of the matches between the two teams to this point. I mentioned at the start which matches could be the match of the night, personally, I think this one has the potential and quality to win that title.

Dean Ambrose vs. Seth Rollins

RIF: Dean Ambrose

Joe: Dean Ambrose

Michael: Seth Rollins

Dan: Dean Ambrose

Seth Rollins’ betraying the Shield was not only the emphasis for a push which lead to the Money in the Bank briefcase but it’s also ignited one of the most interesting feuds in WWE in a long time against  former Shield member, Dean Ambrose. People bang on about Roman Reigns becoming “the man” after the Shield breakup. Not me. I firmly believe that Dean Ambrose will go on to become the bigger star. I truly believe that! Ambrose has gotten over at a level few could have expected. There was no doubting his abilities on the mic or in the ring, but some questioned the decision to have him remain the babyface as he was proving popular as a heel. Thus far, the unpredictable nature of the character, not to mention his unique style has helped set him apart from the other, more generic babyfaces on the roster. He’s like a cross between Rowdy Roddy Piper and Brian Pillman’s “loose cannon” gimmick. Rollins has filled the role of cowardly villain far better than could have been imagined. He has done an excellent job of earning the ire of both fans and associates, irritating both Randy Orton and Kane in recent weeks with his new “golden boy” status. When will he cash it in? Well with the support of management behind him, Rollins could become champion sooner than expected!

Jack Swagger vs. Rusev

RIF: Jack Swagger via DQ

Joe: Rusev

Michael: Rusev

Dan: Jack Swagger

I don’t normally like to mix politics with wrestling but in this case I feel as though I have to. I’m sure we’ve all heard about the tragedy surrounding flight MH17 and that’s got me thinking about Rusev. Will they take him off TV or will they tone down his character? I honestly don’t know. In light of the events I guess it’s safe to say that they won’t be able to mention President Putin’s name again. Wrestling has always had the evil foreign heel but this is too big of a deal to ignore. I believe that Jack Swagger will get the DQ victory here and at SummerSlam he’ll be the one who gives Rusev his first defeat in the WWE.

Pre-Show

Cameron vs. Naomi

RIF: Naomi

Joe: Cameron

Michael: Naomi

Dan: Cameron

At WrestleMania V the Mega Powers exploded. This year at Battleground, it’s the Funkadactyls doing the exploding! I can’t say I’m looking forward to this one. Well, I could but that would be a lie. Naomi to pick up the win as the face normally wins the pre-show plus she’s the better wrestler of the two. No idea where both girls will go after this. I guess Naomi will get lost in the shuffle whiles Cameron watches re-runs of Alicia Fox vs. Melina. (She had her as her tag team partner recently. A dream come true huh)

**Tie Breakers**

Who will be the first person eliminated from the Battle Royal?

RIF: Zack Ryder

Joe: Xavier Woods

Michael: R Truth

Dan: Diego

It’s bound to be a lower level guy who gets the early elimination.

Who will take the first fall in the 2/3 falls match?

RIF: The Usos

Joe: The Usos

Michael: The Wyatts

Dan: The Usos

A shot in the dark. I’ve honestly got no idea about this. Normally the heels usually take the lead in matches like this whiles the faces battle back. Complete guess.

Enjoy Battleground, guys. Feel free to post your predictions!

Some good predictions there, It is a shame that the SummerSlam poster was leaked but Cena would most likely be the favourite to win anyways.
