For the second straight pay per view the WWE World Heavyweight Championship won’t be defended but by the end of the night we will have a new champion. It sucks that Daniel Bryan’s title reign has to end via injury but his time will come again I’m sure and when it does I’m confident that he’ll have a longer run next time around. The WWE title Ladder match involved 8 guys which is interesting and should provide some entertainment. The actual MITB ladder match is also appealing. However, it doesn’t feel as important as previous years. They could have done a better job of promoting it.
As always, we predict the outcome of the matches for points and here’s what the league table looks like so far:
RIF – 83.5
Michael – 67.5
Dan – 64.5
Joe – 52
Big E vs. Rusev
Rusev crush! Big E job!
Goldust & Stardust vs. Rybaxel
RIF: Goldust & Stardust
Joe: Goldust & Stardust
Michael: Goldust & Stardust
Dan: Goldust & Stardust
What can I say about Stardust? I didn’t see it coming, a swerve Vince Russo would be proud of. In the long term it’s going to be part of the Cody turning heel ending. He could use this gimmick to claim that he was the star of the team. It makes sense that’s for sure. Also, does WWE have any other mid card heel tag teams other than Rybaxel? It appears these teams have faced each other countless of times. Anyway, rank one up for the Dust Brothers!
Summer Rae vs. Layla
Special Guest Referee: Fandango
RIF: Summer Rae
Joe: Summer Rae
Dan: Summer Rae
The old school “girl stole my man” storyline that we’ve seen countless of times over the years on Jerry Springer (That reminds me, remember when Jerry Springer was guest host on Raw? Horrible!) Hard to tell if Summer Rae is the babyface because she still acts like the bitchy heel that all the heel divas portray. Expect both girls to hit on Fandango throughout hoping it gives them some sort of an advantage. Got a feeling that this will turn into a comedy dance off segment. In fact, I’m going to put a bet on it right now! I’m going with Summer Rae since she’s the younger and newer character who could benefit from the victory.
WWE Divas Championship
Paige © vs. Naomi
I’m disappointed that Paige hasn’t had a good feud for the title. Alicia Fox had some strong character development when she was gunning for the title. With Naomi, that isn’t the case. They could have built them up as babyfaces in a 7-10 minute match but instead, they’ll end up focusing on Cameron instead. The seeds have been planted for a Cameron heel turn which in turn will lead on to many Cameron vs. Naomi matches. That’ll be no Melina vs. Alicia Fox eh Cameron?
WWE Tag Team Championship
The Usos © vs. Luke Harper & Erick Rowan
RIF: The Usos
Joe: The Usos
Michael: The Usos
Dan: The Usos
Many believe that this will be the night where the title changes hands. I don’t see that happening. The Usos are going to be build up as the centre piece of the tag division and rightfully so. For them to really be established as the team to beat, they need a significant title reign. That means longer than three months. If the Usos get a reign that lasts six months or so that will be really beneficial to them and to the value of the titles. For the record, Luke Harper is a surprisingly talented guy. You don’t expect that from a guy like him. Mick Foley recently wrote a blog about how he thinks Harper is destined for big things. I 100% agree with him on that one!
Money in the Bank Ladder Match
Bad News Barrett vs. Dean Ambrose vs. Dolph Ziggler vs. Jack Swagger vs. Kofi Kingston vs. Rob Van Dam vs. Seth Rollins
RIF: Dean Ambrose
Joe: Seth Rollins
Michael: Bad News Barrett
Dan: Seth Rollins
I originally went with Barrett (being English I always root for the hometown boy) but with his injury I had to give it second thoughts, although Michael still Bo-lieves (sorry). You can rule Swagger Kofi & Ziggler out right now although it would be refreshing if Kofi did win providing there was some massive character change in place otherwise nobody will take him seriously. Van Dam is possible. I guess he could be one of the two guys fighting it out on the ladder at the end. So that leaves Ambrose & Rollins. Both guys have a ton of momentum going into this one. Ambrose is kayfabe insane! He’s not super concerned about winning, he just wants to see Rollins burn. It makes sense for Ambrose to win because if you can remember, Rollins was the one who asked Triple H to put him in this match. Perhaps it will come back to haunt him. He has got that “loose cannon” Brian Pillman gimmick going where he becomes this unpredictable guy that the crowd can get behind. Imagine him with the Money in the Bank briefcase in his possession? It fits the gimmick and that’s why he is my choice to win this one.
WWE World Heavyweight Championship
Alberto Del Rio vs. Bray Wyatt vs. Cesaro vs. John Cena vs. Randy Orton vs. Kane vs. Roman Reigns vs. Sheamus
RIF: John Cena
Joe: John Cena
Michael: John Cena
Dan: John Cena
I’m pretty sure we’ve all seen the leaked SummerSlam poster of Cena & Brock make its rounds this past week. Is it legit? It could be a red heron but with John Cena, it seems likely. It’s no surprise that Roman Reigns is being groomed as the next golden child of the WWE. I don’t think he’ll win it here though. I can imagine him to get very close to winning only for Triple H to rob him off the moment which in turn will lead to that much rumoured SummerSlam match between the two. The right time for Reigns will be winning the 2015 Royal Rumble and then the gold at WrestleMania 31. Cesaro & Wyatt are also stars on the rise. Their time will come someday. They could go with Randy Orton. It would be a step back considering how boring his last title run was last year and into this year. It just kept on dragging. Orton can stay relevant without being the champ again. Just keep the title off him. Sheamus is the guy to help restore some much needed credibility for the US title so a win here is unlikely. Besides, he’s fallen so far down the babyface pecking order. As for Alberto Del Rio, no chance. As much as I like the guy he has fallen so far off the radar that I don’t think fans would even buy him as the NXT champion!
When it comes to a winner it’s the obvious choice, but it’s also the one that makes the most sense to me. Plus, it’s not a bad idea to have hometown hero John Cena winning it in Boston either even if he does get booed there too.
